Software Censor in China

The censor software that was to be installed on all computers sold with effect from July 1 in China to censor user access to certain websites has been delayed.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Chinese Government, the delay is simply due to the fact that computer manufacturers have requested more time to complete this process. However, everything suggests that the government could have bowed to international pressure.

It should be borne in mind that this software, to be preinstalled on all computers, censors keywords that are deemed politically incorrect. Furthermore, it appears that the delay in the imposition of this software could be due to other causes also. Apparently, the software that the Chinese government is ready to use on all computers contains code stolen from a filter designed by the company Solid Oak. The company has threatened to take legal action against any PC manufacturer to use the code.
