Morro from Microsoft

Microsoft will present a free antivirus for the PC named Morro. With this new service, the company aims to compete with products from Symantec and McAfee.

For the moment, it is testing the first version of the product with Microsoft’s own employees.  Microsoft said that Morro will offer basic tools to combat a wide range of viruses. Tools that are likely to be functional as the low-end products from Symantec and McAfee, which costs about $ 40 per year.

According to Microsoft the new free antivirus protection provides various types of malware including viruses, spywires, rootkits and Trojans. Three years ago, Microsoft entered this market with Live OneCare, which proved a commercial failure. For this reason, the company will cease the service to begin offering  Morro during the last months of 2009.
