IBM looking to buy SUN!

IBM could magnify their importance in the Internet software market through the purchase of the maker of semiconductors and software maker Sun Microsystems. The Wall Street Journal says that both companies are now negotiating this transaction.

IBM is willing to pay up to $ 7 billion to buy Sun Microsystems. Both companies stand out from the competition for having opted for the promotion of free software Linux. Also, the two companies have a lower dependence than their Intel rivals.

During the past year, Sun Microsystems has increased its commitment to open source software by the payment of approximately one trillion dollars for MySQL, a company distributing a database of open source that is widely used in commercial websites.

These characteristics could be putting IBM in a privileged position within the software market, even more so knowing that users are increasingly disenchanted with Microsoft products. If the purchase agreement consolidates, IBM and Sun would dominate about 65% of the market for servers that take the Unix operating system and 42% of the total market.
