China to tacitly help out North Korea
The UN sanctions in the past decade have not had the desired effect on North Korea, only due to the back door tacit support by it’s neighbor China. China is a UN security council permanent member and that position has given it the veto power on all key sanctions against North Korea.
Also over the last few years China has been able to support the nuclear ambitions of North Korea and also help North Korea with all the key imports in the wake of the global sanctions. China now accounts for 80% of the consumer goods imports of North Korea and about 90% of oil imports. This timely and dominant help from the powerful neighbor is helping North Korea to continue with the arrogant behavior. That helps China to push up it’s negotiation capability with US and Japan.
